The Story of this Unique Structure…

A Place to Grow endeavors to repurpose materials in a way to keep them from ending up in our landfills and creating functional art to enhance your outdoor living spaces.
The Story of the “Savor” Greenhouse
This outdoor structure uses urban forested red wood, French oak flavor sticks, over 100 year old redwood from a water tank in Placerville, CA , redwood fence boards, French doors, a full wall window, surplus sheet metal, and windows which had been replaced .
- This full wall window came out of a home in the Paso Robles area. It is truly a unique window! The beam above the window provides structural integrity yet is also unique in that it is old growth redwood that came from a water tank in Placerville, CA.
- The structure is made out of urban forested redwood that came from a tree in San Luis Obispo that’s bark was burned in a fire. The City then required that the tree be removed. After removal, the tree dried out and seasoned for two years before being custom milled for this structure.
- The gable end dog-eared redwood 12” planks came from fences in San Luis Obispo and Los Osos.
- The sheet metal above the front doors is from the railroad center project in San Luis Obispo.
- The metal corrugated material used on the side walls came from an old farmhouse in Nipomo.
- These windows on the front wall came from an old cabin in San Miguel.
- The French doors used as windows on the side walls came from Habitat for Humanity.
- The French oak wine flavor sticks (used in the production of wine) were cut at a 30 degree angle below the window and vertical above the window. These wine flavor sticks came from a reclaimed wood operation in San Luis Obispo, CA.
- The shelves on the inside are also made of the urban forested redwood.
As you can see, each of our structures is completely one of a kind and has a unique story to tell. We consider our structures to be functional art that provides sacred spaces for people to grow!
